Having quickly risen to fame after being commissioned by the National Portrait Gallery to paint former first lady Michelle Obama, Amy Sherald’s bold, colorful style of portraiture has already become both familiar and iconic. Her exhibition, Amy Sherald: The Heart of the Matter was recently on view at Hauser & Wirth and was declared “magnificent and stirring” by Roberta Smith of The New York Times.
