Terence Blanchard is a 2018 USA Fellow and a five-time Grammy winner. As one of the most influential jazz musicians of his generation, Blanchard has been composing music for Spike Lee’s movies since 1991 and was nominated for an Oscar for his work on BlacKkKlansman. He also scored Kasi Lemmons’ recently released biography about Harriet Tubman, Harriet. In 2021, the Metropolitan Opera will present Blanchard’s Fire Shut Up in My Bones, its first opera staged by a black composer in its 136-year history.
